St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – International Capital & Management Company (ICMC) in partnership with The University of the Virgin Islands School of Business is proud to present, “The Entrepreneur Business Institute,” (EBI) an answer to what some may say is missing in the Virgin Islands landscape for young people in the Territory.

Created in 2013, in an effort to positively impact the business landscape and empower and prepare young Virgin Islanders with the important skills of business and entrepreneurship, this FREE summer program that runs from June 21st through July 11th for 10th, 11th and 12th graders, is set to help students develop key skills about entrepreneurship, leadership and business, while providing insight into the college experience and campus life by fully immersing them into the college environment.

“This is a key opportunity for students to access the information that can take them into the business environment armed with the skills and information that will serve to benefit them as they survey the business and entrepreneurial landscape,” says Cornel Williams, President of International Capital and Management Company (ICMC). “For ICMC, this is one of the ways that we choose to impact the VI business community and assist in preparing young people for the world of business, as well as molding entrepreneurs who can grow to operate their very own successful businesses at any age.”

For three weeks, 30 students from across the Territory will have the opportunity to reside on the UVI campus to enjoy a pre-college experience and learn about the advantages and challenges of entrepreneurship, experience mentorship from successful business leaders, while participating in active discussions about concept development and business ownership. Students will also engage in team exercises to improve their team-building and project management skills and enjoy an educational experience where they can participate in forums and discussions facilitated by business professionals along with a group of their peers.

Though ICMC and UVI held a similar business program from 2006 to 2011, the team worked to re-define and re-create the high intensity program that now highlights a much more entrepreneurial focus. “The Entrepreneurship Business Institute (EBI) prepares high school students to think innovatively and outside the traditional employment opportunities available within the Virgin Islands,” explains Aubrey Washington, Interim Dean at UVI’s School of Business. “As the Virgin Islands diversifies its economy, it will need cadres of young people who have the creative mentality to develop new businesses and employment opportunities. EBI plants the seed for this transformation.”

A robust and well-rounded program, the curriculum also offers time for participants to enjoy time together as they participate in community engagement activities as well as social networking opportunities and off site excursions.

“International Capital & Management Company (ICMC) is the perfect partner for the EBI,” says Washington. “The visionary leadership of ICMC along with its entrepreneurial culture and long-term commitment to the Virgin Islands made it the ideal collaborator for this project. Not only do they provide the financial resources for the Institute, but also supply their human capital that enriches the program.”
