Dear Antilles Community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I bring warm greetings as we begin the Year of CommUNITY at Antilles School. It is hard to believe that the fall semester is already in full swing, and the work of educating, learning and community-building is well underway!
Our unique school, now 520 students strong, is inspired by learning, empowered by diversity and our distinct place in Caribbean culture and 100 percent committed to delivering a college preparatory education that is second to none.
This will be yet another monumental year at Antilles School. Over 50 new families have been welcomed to our community, talented educators from near and far have joined our amazing faculty, the MCM Center has gone solar and our campus has been infused with new technologies and features designed to enrich student learning and make the environment safer. Dr. Hughes is entering his third year at Antilles, and we are fortunate to have such a capable, confident and creative leader at our helm. The Antilles Advantages are significant and continue to grow!
In keeping with the year of CommUNITY where all members of the Antilles family are encouraged to work together to build a sense of belonging, I’d like to briefly share an overview of the role the Board of Trustees plays in supporting this vision.
As the school’s governing body, the work of the Board of Trustees is strategic in nature. Our focus is on the long-term stability, sustainability and competitiveness of Antilles School. We are a group of 16 volunteers from the St. Thomas-St. John community. We bring diverse backgrounds and skill sets and share two major commonalities, a deep passion for and a commitment to Antilles School. Our job, in partnership with the Head of School, is to lay the groundwork for the Antilles of the future and serve as “Antilles Advocates” within the broader community.
This year, the Board of Trustees, working with Dr. Hughes, continues its ongoing focus on the Antilles School Strategic Plan, a dynamic five-year plan that was adopted in 2012 and evolves annually in response to trends in the marketplace. The plan outlines three strategic goals for Antilles:
Academic Excellence in College Preparation
A copy of the Antilles School Strategic Plan can be found on Currents within the Antilles website. Please take a moment to review these exciting plans and the vision for the Antilles of the future.
While the Board is focused on the future, Dr. Hughes and his talented team of administrators and educators oversee the daily operations of the school. They bring the academic and management expertise that make the school “hum” everyday and are entrusted to make all day-to-day decisions with respect to the school’s operations.
It is truly an exciting time at Antilles School. We are living our mission everyday and the year of CommUNITY is unfolding! Thank you for being a part of this preeminent place of learning in the heart of the Caribbean.
President, Antilles School Board of Trustees
