Meet our New Colleagues 2026-2027

Some are coming back to a place they already know well. Others are finding their place at Antilles for the first time. But our newest colleagues arrive with experiences that stretch from St. Thomas to Puerto Rico, New York City and even beneath the Magic Kingdom, along with plenty of stories we’re just beginning to learn.

Barrington Baron | Dean of Students

Barrington Baron comes to Antilles with experience supporting young people within the V.I. Department of Education, including as a Student Success Specialist at the Raphael O. Wheatley Skill Center. Antilles’ reputation for living its mission, he said, was part of what drew him to the School.

As Dean of Students, he is looking forward to building relationships while modeling the social-emotional skills students can use in their daily lives and carry with them into adulthood. And there are at least two easy ways to get to know him beyond his new role: ask about music or Mustangs. He fell in love with both as a child, and the interests have stuck.

Shanelle Brin | School Nurse

For School Nurse Shanelle Brin, joining Antilles brings together several pieces of home. Born and raised on St. Thomas, she is married to Matthew Smock '06, and their two children are currently in the ELC. Now, she also gets to work alongside some of the same people who made an impact during her own school years.

Her healthcare career began at just 15 as a summer student at Schneider Regional Medical Center and has taken her from managing a memory care unit to performing biometric testing for Disney performers just beneath the Magic Kingdom. Most recently, she worked as a perioperative nurse at SRMC. After living in five states and St. Vincent and the Grenadines since graduating in 2006, she has always made her way back to St. Thomas. At Antilles, she is most looking forward to building relationships with students. And given a long weekend, you’ll likely find her camping, hiking or fishing.

Shelby Chatham '11 | Middle School Science

For Shelby Chatham '11, coming back to Antilles really is coming home. Born and raised on St. Thomas, she attended Antilles from PreK through Grade 12 and later returned as an educator, beginning in the TLC before making her way to Middle School. After spending the past five years living and teaching in Puerto Rico, she has found her way back once again. Her mom, Vicki Jones, also retired in 2025 after decades spent in the ELC, Lower School, and Resource classrooms.

Ms. Chatham's return also comes with a pretty special full-circle moment: some of the eighth graders she will teach this year were in one of her TLC classes when she first began working at Antilles. Outside the science classroom, she loves CrossFit and is an avid reader, particularly of fantasy novels.

Glenise Shillingford-Williams ’06 | Executive Assistant to the Head of School

Glenise Shillingford-Williams '06 is another familiar face returning to Antilles in a new way. After graduating, she attended the University of Tampa and went on to work across several industries in management and human resources. When a position opened at her alma mater, she knew it was time to bring that experience back to the place she says helped shape who she is today.

In her new role as Executive Assistant to the Head of School, Ms. Shillingford-Williams is especially excited to contribute to the sense of community she remembers from her own years here. As for what you won’t find on her résumé? You’ll have to ask. Her advice is simple: start a conversation and see where the stories take you.

Gylchris Sprauve | Middle and Upper School Spanish

Many in the Virgin Islands will already know Maestro Gylchris Sprauve through his work in music and culture. A tenor, pianist, composer, music educator and linguist, he has performed internationally and founded the V.I.-Puerto Rico Friendship Chamber Orchestra. His contributions to Virgin Islands music have also been formally recognized by the V.I. Legislature, including his composition Valiant Virgin Isles, which was designated the territory’s Centennial Anthem.

Now, he brings another of his passions to Antilles: language. Friends already working at the School encouraged him to consider Antilles, knowing his love of languages and the School’s commitment to excellence. As a Middle and Upper School Spanish teacher, he is excited to give students skills they can use in pursuing their own goals while opening doors to other languages and cultures. And with everything else on that résumé, there’s still something simpler to know about him: he loves Brazilian food.

Tim Steffen | Director of Advancement

After 18 years teaching in New York City, leading a middle school in Pennsylvania and later working in the nonprofit world, Tim Steffen realized how much he missed being in education. When the opportunity at Antilles emerged, he visited campus, experienced the community here and knew he wanted to be part of it.

As Director of Advancement, Mr. Steffen is looking forward to working alongside the Advancement Team and helping support the future growth of the School. He also brings a talent that may need to make an appearance on campus at some point: Tim is a classically trained pianist with a particular love for playing Ragtime music.

Some are returning home, others are beginning an entirely new Antilles story, and each brings something different to our classrooms, offices and community. We’re glad they’re here, and even more excited for our students and families to get to know them.
