Red Squares, Yellow Circles, and Blue Triangles... Oh My!

Our thanks to Nancy Keller-Coffey who visited Antilles Monday to lead our faculty through a uniquely inspiring professional development exercise.

Positioned in three groups (squares, circles, and triangles) the activity challenged faculty to achieve a goal while working independently and as a team.  The path to success however becomes skewed by various influences and factors, not all of them equal. The experience was thought provoking and led to may engaging conversations throughout the week.

Thank you Nancy for a dynamic, interesting, and entertaining two hours on Monday and for your interest in Antilles!

Jog-A-Thon Supports Student Experiences

We appreciate the support of Lower School parents who volunteered Thursday and Friday to count laps, hand out water, and cheer on students at this year's Jog-A-Thon!

The annual two-day event raises funds to support our music program, student field trips, and experiences that students look forward to daily, including Dancing Classrooms, a 10-week program that uses the art of the dance to teach life skills. Applications such as SeeSaw, which allow us to map our students' progress and give you to special moments in the classroom are made also made possible by funds raised y Jog-A-Thon.

Leadership Through Service

Tiffany Fritz, Megan Elliot, and Michelle Braley organized this year's student leadership conference, hosted by Monesh Mohanani '88 and Heenu Mohanani on Thursday.

Our high school students set goals during these leadership sessions focused on building relationships and creating a culture on campus that is more inclusive, intentional, and community-service driven.

Vernon Araujo '02 encouraged students to consider "service" as a career that could make a lasting impact on the future of the Virgin Islands. Organizing cleanups, food drives, and volunteering throughout the year is important, but taking the next step and working at home as a doctor, teacher, or law enforcement officer is transformative, Vernon said.

Mighty, Mighty Hurricanes

Our boys varsity basketball team won last Friday 54-36 over V.I. Montessori School and again on Sunday 70-48 against Charlotte Amalie High School. We hope to see you at their game today at 5PM against All Saints at Kean's gym.

Our boys and girls junior varsity basketball teams had great games Saturday against Sprauve, which they won 41-25 and 24-5, respectively.

The last few months have been smooth sailing for Ian Barrows '13, who was honored this week as the V.I. Sailing Association's V.I. Sailor of the Year. An aspiring Olympian, Ian was also named Marlow Ropes College Sailor of the Year in June. Antilles' sailing program has propelled many other alumni into the athletic spotlight, including Ian's brother and two-time Olympian Thomas Barrows '06, who was named Sailor of the Year in 2010. Must run in the family ;)
